Boys Before Flowers, which was originally taken from the manga Boys Over Flowers, is one of the 2009 hottest sensation in Korea. Boys Before Flower is best known because the characters of the drama fits the characters in the real manga are the MOST alike in the whole world. This drama is also known for the exciting and improvement in the manga to the drama.
The Story
Everything starts when Jan Di (Goo Hye Sun), who is a daughter of a poor family that owns a dry cleaning store goes to drop off some clothes to the rich and famous Shin Hwa College. In order for Jan Di to get her money for the dry cleaning, she saves the boy who is going to commit suicide because of the famous F4 (Flower 4). Because Jan Di saves the boy, she gets a swimming scholarship in order for the president of Shin Hwa group (mother of Goo Joon Pyo) to solve the rumor problem that was going on because of the suicide. Jan Di tries to avoid the F4 because she doesn't want to cause any trouble. But then her new best friend, Min Ji accidentally gets ice cream on Goo Joon Pyo (Lee Min Ho), the leader of F4, the story actually begins.
Later on, Jan Di becomes best friends with Yoon Ji Hoo (Kim Hyun Joong), one of the members of the F4. Jan Di starts falling for Ji Hoo but her heart shatters when she finds out that Ji Hoo has his heart to someone else. Her name is Min Seo Hyun. Seo Hyun doesn't know it but later she has to leave for Paris and Ji Hoo finally asks her out. They end with a kiss, but poor Jan Di was watching. But luckily, Joon Pyo was watching and went to a bar. Jan Di tells Ji Hoo to go and chase Seo Hyun and he does.
Soon or later, Joon Pyo starts liking Jan Di and Jan Di doesn't quite hate it. One day when Joon Pyo was trying to announce that Jan Di is officially his girlfriend, Ji Hoo comes out of no where and says that he disagrees with that. Ji Ho slowly realizes that he like Jan Di and thinks is able to forget Seo Hyun. And finally start liking Jan Di. Bu he's a bit too late. Joon Pyo and Jan Di started going out and Ji Hoo can't stop Joon Pyo.
When the F4 and Jan Di (plus her best friend Ga Eul, or Kim So Eun.) goes on a trip, Jan Di finds out that Ji Ho has been dumped by Seo Hyun, and she was going to marry the Prince(?) of Paris. Jan Di feels bad and because of that reason Ji Hoo and Jan Di have a kiss. Unfortunately, Joon Pyo sees this and leaves the whole trip. Joon Pyo tries to ban both of them from the school. This helps them to begin a contest. The winner gets what they want. Jan Di and Ji Hoo in one team and the other team is Joon Pyo, So Lee Jung (Kim Bum), and Song Woo Bin (Kim Joon), who are the rest of F4. They pick 3 sports out of a hat. Coincidentally, the three sports are Horseback Riding (Ji Hoo's best), Car Racing (Joon Pyo's best), and Swimming (Jan Di's best). Unexpectedly, the winner of the first one was Joon Pyo, the winner of the second was Ji Hoo, and the winner of the last was undecided. What happen was in the first race, Joon Pyo forced the horse through a shortcut through the forest and Joon Pyo wasn't suppose to do that. With that Joon Pyo won, but the horse ended up dead. In the second one, it was an unexpected win of Ji Hoo because Ji Ho is afraid of cars because of an unforgettable bad childhood memory. Ji Hoo used a strategy of jealousy. Ji Hoo gave Jan Di a hug in front of Joon Pyo, which made him distracted in the race. In the last one, it was a swimming relay race. The winner was undecided because when Jan Di and Lee Jung was about a foot aways, the whole swimming pool place's light shut down. With this, Jan Di and Ji Hoo doesn't get banned from the school. There are a lot of troubles that the love triangle goes through and this is just the beginning.
In the drama, that's not the only love triangle. So Lee Jung, Chu Ga Eul, and Cha Eun Jae (Park Soo Jin) is also a love triangle. The relationship between Lee Jung and Eun Jae is just a childhood friend. But what they don't know is that they have been liking each other. But when things get all mixed up, they get seperated. The relationship with Lee Jung and Ga Eul is just friends also. Ga Eul always believed in things like "soulmates" and Lee Jung loved making fun with that. When Ga Eul goes through troubles with her "boyfriend", Lee Jung is the one that helped her solve the problem. He pretended to be her new boyfriend and made him jealous. I mean come on being able to go out with him can be in the same level as winning a MILLION dollar jackpot. With that Ga Eul slowly starts likeing each other. But when Lee Jung is going through hardship forgetting Eun Jae, Ga Eul tries reveals the reason to why Eun Jae left Lee Jung. The reason was that on Valentine's Day, Eun Jae told Lee Jung to come to this certain place at this certain time and it was suppose to be something that they can see at that time only. Lee Jung loses the address and time and forgets everything about it. Ga Eul brings Lee Jung to the place and when the time came, as the sunsets, the two billboards on top of the buildings spelled out "I Love you, Lee Jung". Lee Jung starts opening his heart ti Ga Eul after this. The story ends on episode 25 when Joon Pyo comes back from America(?) and proposes to Jan Di.
The Casts
Goo Hye Sun is a female actress who plays the main character, Jan Di. The funny thing about this world-wide famous actress is that she is in YG Entertainment. YG Entertainment is actually for singers only, but when she was preparing for her singer debut, and her boss found out she was a better actress than singer. So she debuted as a an actress and now she is one of the most famous well known actress around. She has played many different types of character starting from just an ordinary college student (Nonstop 5 for example) to an ordinary country girl (Pure 16 to be exact). With the great acting skills she has won New Actress Award from 2006 KBS Acting Awards and New Star Award from 2007 SBS Acting Awards. We hope to see more of her acting soon.
Lee Min Ho who is now famous for the nasty but lovable Goo Joon Pyo. Even though he has done other drams and movies that were famous, he was considered a "new actor" since he has not gotten any awards. For that reason he has won 45th Baeksang Arts Awards for the Best New Actor. Their has been rumors that Lee Min Ho will be starring as Jacob Black in the Korean version of Twilight the movie. We expect to see more of him soon in his new movie and dramas.
Kim Hyun Joong is actually the leader and the oldest of the korean boy singing group called SS501, who sang a few OSTs in the drama Boys Before Flowers. SS501 stands for SuperStar 501. And the 5 stands for the 5 members, and the 01 stands for the unity of 1. The five members are; Kim Hyun Joong, Huh Young Saeng (turning 23) <3,> His acting skills were proven to be pretty good in Boys Before Flower as he played Yoon Ji Hoo. We are expecting more form the handsome idol star.
Kim Bum
Kim Bum, an 20 years old actor, debuted in the weirdest way that any one can. Kim Bum starred in a show called Survival KBS Star Audition. The show was among thousands of people who wanted to be an actor. He made it to top 9 but had to drop at 8th place due to his young age. Then he got to star in the sitcom Unstoppable High Kick as himself a high school student. Even though he is 20 now, he has been through a lot to become the actor he is now so lets wait and see what wonderful things he could do.
KIm So Eun
Kim So Eun isn't really famous but has been in many dramas and mvoies including the famous Emperess Chun Chu, as the young Chun Chu. She has raised her popularity level by playing Ga Eul in Boys Before Flowers. We will continue to see this bright futured actress' work soon.
Kim Joon
Kim Joon, similar to Hyun Joong, is also and singer. He is in a guy group called T-Max. This group include constists of 3 members, 2 vocalist and the rapper. The rapper is Kim Joon. I hope to see him acting and singing again soon.
